Mobility scooter users should contact their travel agents about the disabled access available on their cruise liners, it has been claimed.
Travel expert Dawn Gilbertson advised those with mobility aids to research what type of disabled facilities a cruise liner has before booking a holiday.
She wrote on the AZ Central website: “Find a travel agent to help you with your accessibility needs on the ship and tours, or call the cruise lines directly. Many have agents to assist disabled travellers.”
Ms Gilbertson added that some cruise lines advise passengers who need wheelchairs or scooters to bring their own or arrange a rental in advance as on-board vehicles are limited.
Cruisecritic.com, a website which provides cruise reviews and information, listed the leading cruise ships for disabled passengers, with Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas and Independence of the Seas all appearing in the rankings.
Holland America’s Zuiderdam, Westerdam, Noordam and Oosterdam, as well as Princess’ Crown Princess, Emerald Princess and Ruby Princess were also recommended by the site.
